Ƶ North America - Awards & Recognition /article-types/awards-recognition en Ƶ Corporation Recognized on Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 Corporate Equality Index /company/newsroom/news-releases/saint-gobain-corporation-recognized-human-rights-campaign

Malvern, PA., Nov. 9, 2017 – Ƶ, one of the world’s largest building materials companies and manufacturer of innovative material solutions, announced today it has been included on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC’s) 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking tool that measures companies’ policies and practices relating to LGBTQ workplace equality. This is Ƶ’s first year submitting responses to the CEI, resulting in a score of 90 out of 100 percent.

“At Ƶ, we create products that combine comfort and sustainability to enhance the well-being of people all over the world, and in that spirit, we must remember that well-being includes providing our employees with a safe, comfortable, engaging work culture that fosters a sense of belonging,” said Thomas Kinisky, President and CEO of Ƶ North America. “We know that innovation is born when diverse teams come together, so we’re proud to be recognized on the CEI and view this as an ongoing opportunity for Ƶ to evolve to meet people’s changing needs each and every day – just as our company has done for over 350 years.”

The CEI survey is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, which then ranks companies on a scale of 0 to 100 based on a set of five criteria that centers on employment benefits, policies and practices, and resources for the LGBTQ community. The set of criteria changes each year but is always focused on measuring workplace inclusivity for LGBTQ employees.

“At Ƶ, we encourage employees to bring their authentic selves to work each day. A diverse and inclusive environment entails more than gender and ethnic diversity – it also brings together diverse perspectives, experiences and ideas,” said Michael Cahill, Chair, Ƶ North America Diversity & Inclusion Council, and Vice President and General Manager, Ƶ Crystals & NorPro. “We’re proud to be recognized for our diversity and inclusion efforts, as we know they offer a competitive advantage that creates a more engaging environment, helps us outperform our competitors and enables our businesses to grow beyond expectations.”

This achievement follows Ƶ’s launch earlier this year of LIVE OPEN, an Employee Resource Group (ERG) for members and allies of the LGBTQ community – the goals for which were set in part by reviewing HRC’s standards.

The Human Rights Campaign comprises more than three million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national LGBTQ civil rights organization, HRC advocates for basic equal rights and open, honest and safe environments at home, at work and in the community.

To learn more about the 2018 Corporate Equality Index, visit www.hrc.org/cei. The inaugural award recognizes forward-thinking companies that have made a positive impact on society through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. Ƶ was honored for their commitment to educating and developing the next generation of blue- and white-collar science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workers, through partnerships with YouthBuild USA and US2020. The company was also recognized for efforts to bring its global Future Sensations exhibition to the Philadelphia community.

"At Ƶ, we believe we can do well by doing good – and supporting nonprofits that share a commitment to community development, energy conservation and environmental stewardship is central to that belief. CSR is not just a practice for Ƶ, it's fundamental to our culture and employees at every level," said John Crowe, President and CEO of Ƶ and CertainTeed Corporations. "We take great pride in sharing 350 years of building science expertise with the next generation workforce and we're committed to helping more young people succeed in STEM careers across the country. We're honored to be recognized with the Social Impact Award."

Since 2010, Ƶ, through the Ƶ Corporation Foundation, has granted $1.35 million to YouthBuild USA. Through this partnership, Ƶ is helping educate future generations about sustainable building and environmental preservation. Now in the partnership's fifth year, the program has impacted more than 1,050 YouthBuild students nationwide and seen the completion of several U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified homes in communities across the county. Locally, Ƶ volunteered more than 1,500 hours to support YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School.

In addition to a philanthropic focus on green building, Ƶ is also committed to fostering STEM education in Philadelphia, as well as on a national level, because it provides economic mobility to the American middle class. Ƶ is a lead partner in Philadelphia's US2020 program, providing employees with the opportunity to share their building science, engineering and math expertise with youth through hands-on mentoring that will spur their interest in STEM careers.

Drexel University also recognized the impact of Ƶ's Future Sensations global exhibition. In May, Ƶ commemorated its 350th anniversary in Philadelphia with the Future Sensations exhibition, providing more than 114,000 locals and visitors with the opportunity to experience glimpses into future building innovations that will transform the world.

"Now more than ever, we must recognize organizations, whether public, private, educational or non-profit, that are improving the lives of community members, employees and making the world a better place for future generations," said Frank Linnehan, PhD, dean of Drexel's LeBow College of Business. "Ƶ has led by example for 350 years, showcasing the positive impact that corporations can make on the lives of people in the communities they serve, and beyond. Ƶ is a shining example of the innovative organizations we want to honor with the Social Impact Award."

The LeBow College of Business Social Impact Award recognizes organizations that don’t just practice social responsibility because it’s the “right thing to do” – corporate social responsibility is the core of their business, it’s the heart of their culture and it’s what drives their success. Ƶ was honored at the LeBow College of Business Advisory Board and Councils Meeting on November 17.

About Ƶ in North America

For 350 years, Ƶ, the world leader in sustainable environments, has designed and manufactured high-performance building materials that improve the lives of people all over the world.
